Fasting for GOD!
Something that has been laid on my heart this week, and NEEDS to be shared with EVERYONE! :)
My church, Oak Leaf, has challenged us for a week to Fast for the upcoming Redeem the Rock. Oak Leaf is renovating a bar! Yeah you heard me, a BAR! :) This renovation is going to take lots of money, and GOD! SOOO, that is where Fasting comes in.
I first want to say, I can’t ever think of a time that I have fasted before. I am 21, that is soo sad now that I know God’s plan for fasting. I have a good friend, Amanda Frisbee! She is in my Journey Group, great heart for God and people! , I e-mailed all the girls and let them know what I was doing, and that I was going to need lots of prayer. My exact words were , “Not sure why I am doing this, but I am!” I decided to give up…Twitter, Facebook, and TV! Amanda e-mailed me back, and said well this is why you fast, and in a nut shell she said, “Fasting is something that is suppose to help you focus on God! It is a sacrifice! It is allowing you to be closer to God!” Well even though I knew that stuff, I am so glad that she put it in lame-mans terms for me… :) I needed someone to bluntly say, HEY YOU ARE DOING THIS FOR YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR!! THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT IS GOING TO MAKE YOU LOOK COOL!!! God, has shown me a lot so far through this fasting experience.
1. I don’t pray enough! 2. I am not totally dependent on Him! 3. Material things ARE NOT IMPORTANT! 4. Trusting in Him is so rewarding and worth every minute of it!
Again, I love that God has put me in my place with Fasting. I am have been praying so much, and this is only in the middle of my fasting period! My main prayer is that God helps Redeem this new building that we are trying to renovate. Nothing is to small for Him!! Sunday is our last day to do our Fasting and we are going to take up an offering for the new building. I know God has some big plans for Oak Leaf. I am just blessed to be apart of it! :) JOHN 3:30 “He must become greater; I must become less.”
I thought fasting was only for food. Have you tried skipping meals?
you are awesome, my friend :) i loooooove you :)
Thanks Amanda!!! :) I love you too! :) Thanks for the words of wisdom! :)
Demo318 — You don’t have to just fast from meals, and no I haven’t skipped a meal yet. Food is what people traditional fast from, but you can fast from anything. Fasting is just about abstaining from something, and focusing on God!
Rachel, we do this before every mission trip. Our kids do it too, and they usually give up all soft drinks and drink only water. Sometimes they give up TV or something. I’ve fasted, food, soft drinks, COFFEE(that one was tough), computer and other things, but in the end, it’s all about drawing closer to God.
Truly take this time to seek His face, not just His hand. These are the sweetest times in your walk and when you grow the most.

Alan McDurmon
I am excited for your church as well. God is good and He is ALIVE! Praise God!
